With 221 species available, Angraecum are some of the most magnificent of all orchids. These exotic beauties hail from Eastern Africa and the island of Madagascar, varying in size from 6 inches to 36 inches high, with large leathery leaves spiraling around a central stem. The Angraecum Magdalene flowers are typically large and showy, white or ivory in color, and highly fragrant. They grow high up in trees where they receive plenty of light. This genus of orchids are endangered in their native habitats due to clearance of natural vegetation for crop cultivation or forestry, or for industrial or urban development. The other threat is over collection of rare and unusual specimens.
