Sustainable Furnishings Council
The Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) is a non-profit broad-based coalition of companies, non-profits, media interests, and individuals who believe that sustainable furniture and furnishings standards must become the norm in our industry, just as greenbuilding has become the norm in the building sector. Believing we must stop the worst environmental practices within our spheres of influence, SFC members will significantly contribute to fighting dangerous global climate change.

The SFC discourages "greenwashing" by those who are jumping on the green marketing express, but wholeheartedly embraces those who are eager to learn more about sustainable products and practices and are willing to take a series of beginning steps.  

With almost 200 members in its inaugural year, SFC membership involves answering a series of questions that engenders most company executives to reflect on their products and practices.  Knowing where one is on the journey to sustainability is the first step.  Each member evaluates their mission statement to ensure it is aligned with the SFC standards and creates an action plan for ongoing improvements.
